Maggie Mellon

Founder and Trustee (Co-Chair)

Maggie Mellon, a registered social worker based in Edinburgh, brings a wealth of experience to her role as Co-Chair. Her qualifications include CQSW, MSc, and Dip in Child Protection.


Maggie has held key positions in social work practice and management across Scotland and England. Co-founding PAR as a community campaigning group in Edinburgh in 2015, she has made significant contributions to various organizations.  Maggie's previous roles include Director of Services at Children 1st, Head of Public Policy for NCH Action for Children in Scotland, and President of the Scottish Child Law Centre from 2009 to 2012.


She also held the position of Non-Executive Director at NHS Health Scotland from 2008 to 2016, served as Vice Chair of the BASW Council from 2014 to 2016, and chaired the BASW Policy, Ethics, and Human Rights Committee during the same period. Notably, Maggie has personal experience as a kinship carer for a family member. 


Currently, she works as an independent consultant, focusing on social work practice and public policy. Maggie is actively involved in writing and speaking about issues that impact mothers, children, and families. She draws upon her extensive experience as a practitioner, her leadership expertise in the charitable sector, and her skills as a campaigner. Additionally, she values her lived experience as a kinship carer and enjoys sea swimming throughout the year.
